Biography

Denis is a partner at ABMAK Associates, and previously served as the firm’s managing partner. He holds a Master of Laws (with distinction), in Mineral Law & Policy from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum, Mining Law and Policy (CEPMLP) at the University of Dundee, Scotland-UK. Denis has over 16 years experience advising on major projects projects in the mining and oil & gas sectors in Uganda.

Representative Matters

Denis has acted as lead counsel for major projects in Uganda’s mining and oil & gas sectors, including the Makuutu Rare Earths Project, Sukulu project, Mwerasandu Tin project and Namekara Vermiculite project.
He has acted as lead counsel for TotalEnergies EP upstream project and East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project (EACOP).
Succesfuly acted as Counsel in a USD 434M oil & gas tax litigation between the Uganda Revenue Authority an independent oil & gas company.
Succesfuly acted as cousel in USD 25M mining shareholder dispute before the commercial court and court of apeal.
He was Ugadan Law expert in the major oil & gas arbitration between Government of Uganda an independent oil & gas company.
Acted as an expert for the University of Durham reviewing Uganda’s Climate Change Act for the project on ‘Building capacity to enhacing compliance and domestic implementation of the Paris Agreement’.
He is the mining law & policy expert on the EU funded Sustainable Mineral Development project on the mineral value chain analysis for Uganda.
